There's a local flap around here with people complaining that there were "too many tornado warnings" issued. That if there isn't an actual tornado sighted, then it should still be just a watch. Problem is, it takes time to get the word out and technology allows us to see precursors to actual tornadoes. As was pointed out -- and ignored -- in one set of online comments from the newspaper, if they saw that a tornado MIGHT form and waited until it DID form and your house/family was wiped out BEFORE they issued a warning, you'd probably sue. Which makes the argument against issuing warnings absurd.
Sigh.
