Second-Quarter Report
Monday, 2 July 2007 16:58Given that this quarter includes not one, but two ends-of-semester grading periods for Spring and Summer-I Session, I wasn’t expecting to get much done. But the numbers aren’t so bad - pretty much on the same pace as half of 2006, and I’ve been doing a lot of work on stories which will be sent out in the future, so it’s been a good quarter.
Even better, I had not one, but two sales. One was expected, since "Don’t Ask" has been in rewrite for the Blind Eye Books lesbian SF/F/H anthology Tangle. Now it’s finalized with a signed contract and a check. But I was unexpectedly delighted to sell "Machine" to the Australian Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine for their April 2008 issue.
Writers of the Future has been pretty unusual for me. First, I was left waiting to find out what was going on with my Q1 2007 WOTF entry - "The Moons of Mercury" was selected as a Finalist, no prize but it may still be published in the 2008 anthology. WOTF has a blog now, which they are using to get the results out faster than before. And they seem to have renamed the Quarter-Finalists as Honorable Mentions, which I think is probably a good move.
Being busy meant that I didn’t get around to doing many Ficlets this quarter - just one more to a continuing story.
Net result? I’m down one story out from the end of the First Quarter 2007, but still up one story for the year. And I have two new sales!
