Into The Abyss (and Apex)
Monday, 19 April 2010 16:56A Sale!
It actually took a while to develop, but I am pleased to report that my 9300 word short story "Hail to the Victors" is slated for the 4th Quarter 2010 issue of Abyss & Apex -- Editor Wendy S. Delmater says that's technically October. Abyss & Apex is an online magazine, but they do print "Best of..." anthologies and they are supported by donations.
"Hail to the Victors" is a standalone story not set in my usual 29th century universe. A tale of a small surviving military unit crossing a devastated continent on a colony world in the endgame to a war of attrition against invading aliens. (whew)
Anyway, I'm pleased that this story has found a home. Did one needed rewrite of the ending, which has certainly changed from the first version I wrote four years ago, and I think it works now. Funny how sometimes a story's start or finish doesn't quite fit with the rest of a story. This is where readers and editors come in to poke fingers at the rough spots and give me something I then go fly with. (grin)
And it doesn't hurt that Abyss & Apex gets reviewed and is well considered. (double-grin)
