Tangle Girls Reviewed By Obsidianbooks.com

I always feel I have to apologize for Googling myself periodically, looking for reviews of my published works. But in 2009 it needs to be done.

Tonight I found Val Kovalin's review of the Tangle Girls anthology at Obsidianbookshelf.com. You can read the whole review of all the stories at that link. But I was touched by the comments about my story "Under Suspicion":
There is a lot to like about this straight-forward, unpretentious military space-opera...

Here at Obsidianbookshelf.com I also love how Lily and Daniella are just tiny cogs in this vast military bureaucracy. This is more realistic and more interesting than us readers sitting inside the head of an admiral. The sharp, perfectly placed details build an outstanding overall realism in this story. The lesbian relationship felt intrinsic to the solidly plotted story.

I like it when people get what I am trying to do with my stories. With comments like that and more, I can even forgive that "Under Suspicion" was second favorite behind Erin MacKay's "Cupcake". (grin)

Tangle Girls is available from Blind Eye Books and Amazon.com.

Nice ;o)

Also, I got my copy of ASIM yesterday. You want it when I'm done reading? (Will you be at Wiscon?)

It is nice, isn't it?

Alas, I shan't be at Wiscon in 2009. Perhaps 2010. Just as well, Memorial Day has gotten complicated since we missed the deadline and they ran out of rooms in the main hotel. But Wiscon is one of my favorite cons -- impressively run and it's a great hotel.

So what did you think of my story in ASIM? If you really don't need to hang onto the physical copy -- why not send it off to another in the WOTF XXIV circle?

I haven't read it yet...saving all my magazines for the road. I'll pass it off to Erin or Laura, then (They'll be there) ;o)

Those are always better than reading a review and thinking, "Just WTF were _they_ reading, cause is sure as heck wasn't my story?"

Well, there are a number of factual errors in the review (grin), but pointing them out seems petty. Still, I do feel rather chuffed when someone I don't know seems to grok what I was trying to do with the story. Particularly one that I am very fond of. (double-wide-grin)
