Sometimes words fail to adequately describe good writing. Jeff Ford, [livejournal.com profile] 14theditch , was one of our 2004 Clarion instructors. He posts today an honest and lovely and terrible account of his mother's end. It appeared previously in The Silver Gryphon, and Jeff posted it to his blog because it wasn't going to fit in his current collection.

My dad is eighty-six -- my mother a few year's younger ("a lady does not tell her age," she always said to us). There will come a time... but those stories are not yet written and I cannot tell yet how they will go.

But what happens in ER, Grey's Anatomy, House and all the other medical drama shows which have ever happened, isn't quite like what we see in real life. As terrible as reality can be, perhaps that's a good thing.
