Our IMAX theatre allows you to buy tickets online, so with the big IMAX features I don't make the drive without my printout in hand. It's pretty popular, and I know that when we went to see Sherlock Holmes, all the IMAX 3D shows of Avatar were still sold out -- they had signs by the ticket lines.
Or maybe you can buy tickets ahead of time at your IMAX.
