Funny thing is when you beat the students hard enough to pick and read a book, they mostly like it and think they'll do it again. We're being too nice to them in K-12. Their self-esteem will grow greatly if they get shoved hard enough! The trick, IMHO, is let them express their own opinions, rather than just write Yet Another Boring Theme Paper On The Symbolism And Plot And Character Development... Save that crap for the exams. (double-grin)
