So on Tuesday gasoline was $3.63.9/gallon, though I paid $2.99.9/gal.

Wednesday at 5pm I noted the same stations in Allendale were $3.60.9/gal.

Today, Thursday 22 May 2014, a day before the start of the Memorial Day weekend, gas was... wait for it... wait for it... $3.88.9/gal. ***

Really? A 28ยข/gal increase? Really? Sure, it's only a 7.7% increase, but why oh why? That's the question.

I can just see people tanking up ahead of time before travelling and getting burned. Because the second part of my prediction is come the actual weekend the price will drop. Best to buy gas as you go and pay whatever. Overthinking doesn't work with a calculating mad market.

*** Craig, my physical therapist, says he was driving through Allendale at 7pm on Wednesday and Speedway, on the east side, had already made the jump. Everyone else in town was still at $3.60.9, except for Admiral on the west side which was, as they often are, a penny cheaper at $3.59.9/gallon. But no, there's no collusion in gas pricing...
