A more legitimate use of my WMU address -- and yet another reason any spammers might want .edu logins -- is a new international login system. Man, that sure would've been useful up at Michigan Tech in September, given its draconian security set up. (grin)
eduroam

eduroam is an international roaming service for users in research, higher education and further education. It provides researchers, teachers and students easy and secure network access when visiting an institution other than their own.

People from other eduroam compatible educational institutions are able to log into Western Michigan University's eduroam environment using their home school's login criteria. Conversely WMU faculty, staff, and students are able to log into the wireless eduroam networks at other schools using their WMU Bronco NetId and password.
I had heard about this a while back and hoped that some of my usual haunts were to be included. It'll make professional conferences and library work and writing at academic institutions a lot easier.

We knew GVSU and University of Michigan were already on the list. Also Illinois and Wisconsin. And now Western. Alas, the international institution list isn't displaying on the Kindle Fire HD.

This is all related to Internet2. That, and the future. (grin)

UPDATE: When I was at the office on Wednesday and waiting for the Kindle Fire HD to connect to tsunami WiFi, I noticed that eduroam was also in the list of WiFi spots.
