j_cheney posted on her blog about the financial troubles of SF author Ed Bryant. I first really noted Ed Bryant's name because he is the Judge for the Science Fiction Writers Of Earth annual SF writing contest -- a very nice place for new writers to submit stories. I submitted five times over four years (2002-2005) before I placed out of the contest (for being too successful -- grin), and though I never won SFWoE, one story went on to win a prize in another contest and two more I expect to sell one day because they've gotten comments from editors. Later on I ran into Ed Bryant stories and also his articles in Locus magazine.
Who knew, before going to the Wikipedia link in the Friends of Ed website, that he was born in White Plains NY where I lived for five years, or attended the 1968 Clarion workshop?
I just got paid on PayPal two hours ago for a story, and so have a PayPal balance -- I am going to send that on to the Ed Bryant fund.
Sometimes you just have to do things.
