Three Days Is Apparently Not Enough

Okay, this cold is officially annoying. Woke up to the phase where great green gobs of crud start coming out. Which you'd think would be the end game, but not quite. Worse, I tried to nap in a chair wrapped in a blanket and two quilts a couple of hours ago -- and kept shivering.

That's it. No classes for me tomorrow.

NOTICE:

Dr. Phil is Canceling Classes Tuesday 20 January 2009 Because He Is Still Sick

I had hoped that three days over the weekend would be enough for this cold, but when
one is shivering while wrapped up in two quilts and a fleece blanket -- you're sick!
Since a number of people, especially for the Noon class, have expressed interest in seeing
the Inauguration on Tuesday, I am going to cancel all my PHYS-2070 and PHYS-1150 classes.
Quiz 4 will be handed out on WEDNESDAY. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Other Things

Power glitched a while ago. It did that at 3am on Saturday, too. Don't think it's our wiring, but not enough for the generator to come on. Trees near our lines were cut previously. Usually this time of year the power glitches either because someone slid off the road and hit a power pole or snow covered trees took out a line.

Bright blue sky and sun -- hurts my poor little watery eyes. But the plowed driveway looks nice. That's it, I'm tired.

It "will" be better "Real Soon Now". Or "else". (grin)

Well, yes, the alternatives aren't pleasant...

Relax, sleep in, do wake in time for the Inauguration, and get better soon.

I'm sure Mrs. Dr. Phil will have the TV on in time for the Inauguration. (grin)

Thanks.

I'd send you a bowl of homemade chicken soup, but I don't have the right input cable with me here at the office.

We're debating here...the fine folks at Turner/CNN are sponsoring an Inaugural Event in Centennial Park - complete with Jumbotron screens and DC Mall-type security. Gates opened 20 minutes ago and there were already about 200+ people waiting to get in, stand around the park freezing their keisters's off, with the chance buy hot food that will freeze before you can eat it and use arse-cold port-o-potties should the need arise. We're only slightly warmer here than in DC. High today might hit 32F, with wind steady at 20mph with gust to 30+mph = wind chills down to the teens!

Anyhow, we're debating do we go down and be part of the festive crowd or watch the festive crowd from here with everyone PC getting the feed...Centennial Park is expecting 10,000+ by 11:30...

Ya know, I've done the freeze the butt off thing when I went to Jimmy Carter's Inauguration those many years ago, I'm thinking I may opt for the warmth and security of our 33rd floor perch.
Someone here must have a stash of something celebratory we can toast with at noon...

Both Grand Valley and Western Michigan were setting up big places for inauguration viewing.

We decided to go down to the building lobby, they have a bank of flat screens. Along with about 100 other people, we stood and cheered and clapped along with the rest of the country. And it was MUCH warmer than fighting the wind the 3 blocks or so to the park.

Looked like Centennial Park ended up with about 3-4,000 folks, I suspect the cold kept a lot of people away.

What was that "whooshing" sound we heard at 12:06 PM? A collective sigh of relief from the entire country the second President Obama finished taking his oath of office.
