Progress Report
Tuesday, 27 August 2013 12:16Today I did nine sit-to-stands without any assistance and I still have another PT session this afternoon. I have been trying to stand up on my own at least once every day for the last month and have been close, and now I can do it.
Yesterday I had another follow-up appointment with my podiatric surgeon, who is totally delighted with how it is healed. Last month this visit to the Spectrum complex across town needed a gurney. This time I was in the wheelchair. The restrictions are off the left heel and now we just have to regain strength and mobility.
With the walker I can walk about 35 feet at a time, and went down a whole back corridor just to see what was around the bend. (Nothing, actually, but a stub with an outside door, a stairwell door and an elevator. But the point was I made it and I looked.)
I have been making incremental gains every day. I expect the path to recovery to pick up now that I have more of a base to work with. This is what you get by working hard with your OT and PT therapists and pushing the envelope.
I could be home by the end of September, though I am thinking that it might be closer to mid-October. We are surely in the $250,000-$500,000 range for the total. Thank goodness for having Mrs. Dr. Phil's excellent insurance through GVSU. And there are politicians who somehow think universal healthcare is a BAD thing?
Till later.
