Yesterday was my last day of OT with Melissa, the therapist I had most days. And today was my last day with Stacy, my main PT therapist. Parting may be such sweet sorrow, but it's also a new beginning. At least come Saturday afternoon.

In OT we worked on left shoulder flexibility and endurance. Again, there's been much improvement in the last couple of weeks. There wasn't a 4 lbs hand weight, so we went up to 5 lbs for the left side, already doing six on the right.

At the start of PT after lunch, I got my own walker -- spiffy black unit with a 500 lbs limit (I was 350.5 lbs at 6am this morning), black treaded tires for outdoor use and red reflectors so cars sneaking up on me in parking lots can see me. Ooh, shiny! (grin)

Then walked down to the gym for some work on my left knee and hamstring.

One more big checkmark item -- got up from the bed in the OT gym in socks and no AFO, and walked out the door and into the hall with either the walker or using the two-cane method for stability. Congratulations, I should now be able to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night at home. (The floors here are too slippery in socks for me to try this in my last two days on Five.)

Ended my PT with a FIM -- Functional Independent Movement eval, or something like that. When I came down to Five in July, I couldn't stand, couldn't walk, couldn't climb stairs, couldn't do anything in a wheelchair and I was a Hoyer lift in and out of bed. Pretty much zeroes and ones across the board. Today I can get in and out of bed with minimal assist with the AFO and shoes, stand up, sit down, adjust myself in a chair, assisted walking (cane or walker), cane assist on stairs. But I was using a cane to assist on stairs before I got sick, so that provides a baseline.

The last two weeks concentrating on getting ready to go home have been most excellent and extremely useful. With my own walker in hand and walking in sock feet, we are in great shape for going home on Saturday. In a sense, today it seemed realistic and not just another hard road to hoe.

I'm just about ready to blow this pop stand.
