Today was our rescheduled Exam 1 in PHYS-1070. It was supposed to be last Friday, but with three real snow days and two Skype lectures -- one due to road conditions and one due to brakes -- it was reasonable to give everyone more time to get this to gel.
Actually I thought it went well. 93 of 96 students made it. I knew of one was who was in the ER and admitted to hospital last night and another had to leave earlier in the week for the dreaded family emergency, so only one extra no-show is good. First paper was turned in around the 25 minute mark and over fifty by the 45 minute mark. Students really appreciated the cookies.
I despaired of hearing from my grader before I left, but just as I started packing up, he showed up. Said he responded to my email last night from his iPad. Could be. Our university's mail system is damned odd at times and depending on how you are sending mail via a tablet, it might be gasping for air in the aether for a while.
Anyway, I feel better that the weekend won't be lost grading time.
To add complications, so-called First Look grades are supposed to be available on Monday -- given the scheduling issues this winter, I wasn't going to sweat about having them late. But if I have an Exam 1 grade, then I can calculate a very rough estimated grade Sunday night.
Oh and my grader has three kids -- I foisted the opened packages of cookies on him. The unopened iced oatmeal goes home. Mrs. Dr. Phil likes those. (grin)
