NPR's Morning Edition today had a story on American style Chinese restaurants opening in China. Apparently some of the foreigners in China miss the inauthentic dishes like General Tso's Chicken. And fortune cookies, another American invention. The Chinese in China seemed polite about it, but considered the food bland.
What makes this funny was Yet Another story the other day on NPR about the secret menu at Chinese restaurants in America. You know, the one's so that Chinese people can get real Chinese food?
In their own way, both are funny, yet both are poignant reminders that we like our familiar tastes of home. Comfort food is relative.
