After having the lowest average gas prices in the nation, I think all of West Michigan was wondering how long it would last. Apparently to Monday. The news reported that oil had dropped yet again on the world market.

Which would perfectly explain the 30¢/gallon jump from $1.76.9/gal to $2.06.9/gal for regular at our usual gas station. Perfectly, as in it doesn't explain it at all.

Given the Return of the Polar Vortex from last year, our first real snows of the year, over ice, and bitter wind chills over in Wisconsin and Minnesota triggering school closings for wind chills below -35°F, one expects the price jump is in reaction to that.

Or a full moon.

Or... insert any old story you want.

Happy New Year, folks.
