The Michigan Primary, Such As It Was, Is Over

I don't normally tell people how I voted. But since the Democratic Primary in the State of Michigan is a non-event as I mentioned the other day, and the Democratic National Committee, the Michigan Democratic Committee and the State of Michigan all don't give a damn about whether my vote should count, I'll tell you.

I Voted For Obama

Whether I intend to vote for Mr. Obama isn't the point -- he wasn't on the ballot. The choices were like Hillary Clinton, Richardson (who dropped out) and that Dennis K. guy. The powers that be wanted those who didn't like these choices to vote for Uncommitted Delegates. Right -- I protest the lame ballot by giving that self-same party the right to have Uncommitted Delegates? Ones which the national party says they won't seat at the convention anyway?

Sorry -- I have a right to mark my ballot for a Write In candidate, whether you say you're going to count it or not. So I did and put Mr. Obama's name down. Which means my ballot was spoiled.

The End

Michigan should never have played games with the primary system. The state's actions discounted my vote and I denied it being used not on my behalf.

Th-hhhbt!

Thank you for not voting for the Dennis K guy.

Michigan shouldn't have messed with the primary dates. Obama and Edwards shouldn't have pulled their names. Neither action did anyone any good. It's all so damned childish.

The levels of pointlessness are unbelievable. But there was one bright spot in the whole thing... the one set of exit polls I've seen suggest that there was almost no Democratic crossover -- the so-called mischief vote -- into the Republican primary. Things can get ugly enough without that.

Though there were TWO answering machine messages at home this afternoon from Senator Joe Lieberman asking us to vote for McCain in the Republican primary. (grin)

Oy.

That the National Party thinks that they can dictate what is legally and morally a STATE matter, is a brilliant display of arrogance. I'm assuming that somewhere in the arcanna of the party's rules, they reserve to themselves at the national level the right to be assholes.

If it were me? I'd just vote Libertarian in the fall, and the Dems can see if they can win a Presidential Election without Michigan and Florida. Even if they win, they'll have split the party. Things like this create long lasting resentments that will cause problems for decades!

Best quote I can think of, and it's SO apt:
"This is stupid. I now have stupid all over me."

About 1100 people in Ottawa and Kent counties did write-in ballots. The clerks said they were expecting the protest. (grin)
